Alan Miller - Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer

Alan Miller was formerly the Chief Investment Officer and founding shareholder of New Star Asset Management from early 2001 until his departure in early 2007. He managed a number of portfolios at New Star including the New Star Investment Trust (an overseas portfolio of multi asset, multi geography, listed and unlisted funds/securities) and the New Star UK Hedge Fund. As the CIO he led the substantial team of fund managers managing retail, institutional and private client monies in equities, property, fixed interest and alternative assets in the UK.

Prior to that, he was a Director at Jupiter Asset Management in charge of their specialist high performance division between 1994 and 2000. At Jupiter, he launched the first UK equity long/short hedge fund in January 1997, managing it for more than nine years. He also managed several retail funds and a number of equity portfolios for substantial pension fund clients.

Earlier he was a senior fund manager at Gartmore Investment Management between 1988 and 1994, responsible for managing various balanced mandate pension funds for a number of corporate and local authority clients.

Alan is also a non-executive director of several private companies including Pharminox Ltd, a pharmaceutical company specializing in cancer research spun out from Oxford University, and Tissue Regenix Ltd, a tissue regeneration pharmaceutical company spun-out from Leeds University. He also helped setup Leigh Cottage Childcare which is a new concept children's nursery near Bradford-upon-Avon providing home from home childcare.
